Plantation Shutters originated in America and the West Indies and date back to before the American Civil War. They were a rather clever innovation which allowed simultaneous control of internal light, ventilation, privacy and temperature. Incorporating hinged timber panels with adjustable louvres, the shutters were fixed either inside or outside of windows and doors. In the UK however, as most of our windows open outwards, plantation shutters are normally fitted internally to offer the utmost in sophistication, convenience and flexibility.
